2023 Boston Marathon for Riverside Community Care

Megan Kaswandik is running the Boston Marathon for Riverside Community Care

Hi everyone –

I am honored to be running the Boston Marathon (my first marathon!) for Riverside Community Care, one of the largest community-based behavioral healthcare and human services organizations in Massachusetts. I know the organization well because I have worked there for over six years as an employee relations specialist (among other roles) within the Human Resources Department. Running and mental health are linked for me. Here’s my story…

I had always been active – in high school I was a sprinter and did competitive dance and acrobatics. Leading up to college graduation and after, I started to question where I was going with my life and was really struggling with anxiety and depression. I hid it for a long time and tried to deal with it alone (as most of us do), but eventually hit my own version of a breaking point and decided to get help… It was the best decision I ever made for myself. One of the ways I learned to cope with my anxiety and depression was long-distance running with my dad. Five years later, running turned into a true passion and I have now run multiple 5Ks, 10Ks, two 10 milers, and two half marathons. I am ready for my first marathon!

Riverside provides mental health services to thousands of children and adults – the kind of services I received at a time when I needed help. That help was not only a lifeline, but it led to my passion for running. I cannot think of a better organization to support while I continue to challenge myself physically, mentally, and emotionally these next few months training for the Boston Marathon!

My goal is to raise $5,000 for Riverside! Your support, especially right now when the need for Riverside’s services is greater than ever, would mean so much to me and the thousands of people who rely on Riverside’s mental health, substance use, and human services.

Thank you for supporting my running journey and Riverside!
